Hair Plus DNA May Advance Forensics

HairWEDNESDAY, Sept. 7, 2016 (HealthDay News) — Certain proteins in the hair can be used alongside DNA in forensics and archeology, researchers report.
DNA is unique to each person but can degrade over time. These hair proteins are more stable than DNA, and can help with human identification, the researchers said.

DNA confirms cause of 1665 London’s Great Plague

Now the bacteria that caused the Great Plague of London between 1665 and 1666 has been definitively identified as the bug that causes bubonic plague – Yersinia pestis.
Archaeologists used DNA testing on skeletons found in a mass grave in a churchyard uncovered during the construction of the new Crossrail Elizabeth that will run through the city’s Liverpool Street Station.
