SLED’s DNA lab flooded with requests

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – It’s difficult for criminals to leave the scene of a crime without leaving traces of themselves behind — a hair, saliva, a piece of skin.
The microscopic evidence or lack of it can mean the difference between freedom and a conviction. It’s the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s (SLED) purpose to test forensics and DNA, but recently budget cuts have prolonged the delivery of those essential results.
